Description

This is a study of Malaysia's new political economy. It offers insights into corporate ownership patterns of the country's leading publicly-listed enterprises, controlled ultimately by the state of Malaysia through what has been classified as government-linked investment companies (GLICs). The book is the first in a series of studies that will be published about the huge range of publicly-listed and unquoted enterprises owned by these GLICs, commonly known as government-linked companies (GLCs). To stress why these government enterprises are such important actors in Corporate Malaysia, this study also provides an overview of the GLICs' ownership and control of the leading publicly-listed enterprises quoted on the Bursa Malaysia. Our focus is on the majority ownership that the GLICs have of the GLCs quoted among Bursa Malaysia's top 100 companies, as it stood in 2013.
