Description

There are only approximately as many federal and state senior appellate judges as there are congressmen and senators, yet the courts are everywhere, and no one is untouched by one or another court intrusion into everyday life. The principal thesis of this book is that American courts, both state and federal, are the central institution in the United States which makes American democracy work, contrary to the assertion that courts are a uniquely undemocratic institution in an otherwise completely democratic society.

Published 1981.
